SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy - “Seven Sleepers” of Ephesus
DESCRIPTION:The Seven Youths of Ephesus: Maximilian\, Iamblicus\, Martinian\, John\, Dionysius\, Exacustodianus (Constantine) and Antoninus\, lived in the third century. Saint Maximilian was the son of the Ephesus city administrator\, and the other six youths were sons of illustrious citizens of Ephesus. The youths were friends from childhood\, and all were in military service together. \nWhen the emperor Decius (249-251) arrived in Ephesus\, he commanded all the citizens to offer sacrifice to the pagan gods. Torture and death awaited anyone who disobeyed. The seven youths were denounced by informants\, and were summoned to reply to the charges. Appearing before the emperor\, the young men confessed their faith in Christ… to continue reading\, click  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2024/08/04/102195-7-holy-youths-seven-sleepers-of-ephesus

An Ecumenical Council is comprised of archpastors and pastors of the Church\, and representatives of all the local Churches\, from every land of the “oikumene” (i.e. from all the whole inhabited world)…more to read at:  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2024/07/14/50-fathers-of-the-first-six-councils

SUMMARY:Festal Divine Liturgy of Holy Pentecost
DESCRIPTION:In the Church’s annual liturgical cycle\, Pentecost is “the last and great day.” It is the celebration by the Church of the coming of the Holy Spirit as the end—the achievement and fulfillment—of the entire history of salvation. For the same reason\, however\, it is also the celebration of the beginning: it is the “birthday” of the Church as the presence among us of the Holy Spirit\, of the new life in Christ\, of grace\, knowledge\, adoption to God and holiness…to continue reading\, click:  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2024/06/23/45-holy-pentecost

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy
DESCRIPTION:On the seventh Sunday of Pascha\, we commemorate the holy God-bearing Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council. \nThe Commemoration of the First Ecumenical Council has been celebrated by the Church of Christ from ancient times. The Lord Jesus Christ left the Church a great promise\, “I will build My Church\, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Mt. 16:18). Although the Church of Christ on earth will pass through difficult struggles with the Enemy of salvation\, it will emerge victorious. The holy martyrs bore witness to the truth of the Saviour’s words\, enduring suffering and death for confessing Christ\, but the persecutor’s sword is shattered by the Cross of Christ…to continue reading\, click:  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2024/06/16/43-commemoration-of-the-holy-fathers-of-the-first-ecumenical-counci

SUMMARY:Festal Divine Liturgy of Ascension
DESCRIPTION:“I ascend unto My Father and your Father\, and to My God\, and Your God” (John 20:17). \nIn these words the Risen Christ described to Mary Magdalene the mystery of His Resurrection. She had to carry this mysterious message to His disciples\, “as they mourned and wept” (Mark 16:10). The disciples listened to these glad tidings with fear and amazement\, with doubt and mistrust. It was not Thomas alone who doubted among the Eleven. On the contrary\, it appears that only one of the Eleven did not doubt—Saint John\, the disciple “whom Jesus loved.” He alone grasped the mystery of the empty tomb at once: “and he saw\, and believed” (John 20:8). Even Peter left the sepulcher in amazement\, “wondering at that which was come to pass” (Luke 24:12).

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy - Sunday of the Blind Man
DESCRIPTION:At the end of Chapter 8 in Gospel of Saint John\, the Saviour was disputing with the Pharisees in the Temple during the Feast of Tabernacles. He told them\, “Your father Abraham was glad that he should see my day; and he saw it and rejoiced” (John 8:56). The Jews said that Jesus was not even fifty years old\, so how could He claim to have seen Abraham? The Lord replied\, “Before Abraham was\, I am.” I am\, of course\, is the name that God revealed to Moses in the Burning Bush. SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy - Sunday of the Samaritan Woman
DESCRIPTION:The holy Martyr Photina was the Samaritan Woman\, with whom the Saviour conversed at Jacob’s Well (John. 4:5-42). \nDuring the time of the emperor Nero (54-68)\, who displayed excessive cruelty against Christians\, Saint Photina lived in Carthage with her younger son Joses and fearlessly preached the Gospel there. SUMMARY:Vesperal Divine Liturgy of St. Basil - Great and Holy Thursday
DESCRIPTION:Two events shape the liturgy of Great and Holy Thursday: the Last Supper of Christ with His disciples\, and the betrayal of Judas. The meaning of both is in love. The Last Supper is the ultimate revelation of God’s redeeming love for man\, of love as the very essence of salvation. SUMMARY:Festal Divine Liturgy - Entry of Our Lord into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday)
DESCRIPTION:Palm Sunday is the celebration of the triumphant entrance of Christ into the royal city of Jerusalem. He rode on a colt for which He Himself had sent\, and He permitted the people to hail Him publicly as a king. A large crowd met Him in a manner befitting royalty\, waving palm branches and placing their garments in His path. They greeted Him with these words: “Hosanna! SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy - St Mary of Egypt
DESCRIPTION:Saint Zosimas (April 4) was a monk at a certain Palestinian monastery on the outskirts of Caesarea. Having dwelt at the monastery since his childhood\, he lived there in asceticism until he reached the age of fifty-three. Then he was disturbed by the thought that he had attained perfection\, and needed no one to instruct him. “Is there a monk anywhere who can show me some form of asceticism that I have not attained? Is there anyone who has surpassed me in spiritual sobriety and deeds?”…to read more\, click  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2024/04/21/18-5th-sunday-of-great-lent-st-mary-of-egypt

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy - St John Climacus (of the Ladder)
DESCRIPTION:The Fourth Sunday of Lent is dedicated to Saint John Climacus\, the author of The Ladder of Divine Ascent. In this book the Igumen of Saint Katherine’s Monastery on Mount Sinai bears witness to the great effort which is required for entry into God’s Kingdom (Matthew 10:12). The spiritual struggle of the Christian life is difficult since it is “not against flesh and blood\, but against … the rulers of the present darkness … the hosts of wickedness in heavenly places …” (Ephesians 6:12). Saint John encourages the faithful in their efforts for\, as the Lord has said\, only “he who endures to the end will be saved” (Matthew 24:13)…to read more\, click  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2024/04/14/16-4th-sunday-of-great-lent-st-john-climacus-of-the-ladder
