SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy- Sunday of the Last Judgement
DESCRIPTION:Today’s Gospel reading is Matthew 25:31-46\, the parable of the Last Judgment. It reminds us that while trusting in Christ’s love and mercy\, we must not forget His righteous judgment when He comes again in glory. If our hearts remain hardened and unrepentant\, we should not expect the Lord to overlook our transgressions simply because He is a good and loving God. Although He does not desire the death of a sinner\, He also expects us to turn from our wickedness and live (Ezek. 33:11). This same idea is expressed in the prayer read by the priest after the penitent has confessed his or her sins (Slavic practice)…click the following link to continue reading: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/02/27/5-sunday-of-meatfare-of-the-last-judgment \n

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy -The Sunday of the Prodigal Son
DESCRIPTION:The Sunday after the Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee is the Sunday of the Prodigal Son. This parable of God’s forgiveness calls us to “come to ourselves” as did the prodigal son\, to see ourselves as being “in a far country” far from the Father’s house\, and to make the journey of return to God. We are given every assurance by the Master that our heavenly Father will receive us with joy and gladness. We must only “arise and go\,” confessing our self-inflicted and sinful separation from that “home” where we truly belong (Luke 15:11-24)…to continue reading click the following link: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/02/20/3-sunday-of-the-prodigal-son

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy of Zaccheus Sunday
DESCRIPTION:The paschal season of the Church is preceded by the season of Great Lent\, which is also preceded by its own liturgical preparation. The first sign of the approach of Great Lent comes five Sundays before its beginning. On this Sunday the Gospel reading is about Zacchaeus the tax-collector. It tells how Christ brought salvation to the sinful man\, and how his life was changed simply because he “sought to see who Jesus was” (Luke 19:3). The desire and effort to see Jesus begins the entire movement through Lent towards Pascha. It is the first movement of salvation. \nTo continue reading\, click the following link: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/02/06/1-sunday-of-zacchaeus

SUMMARY:Festal Divine Liturgy of the Meeting of our Lord in the Temple
DESCRIPTION:The Meeting of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ is described in the third Gospel (Luke 2:22-40). Forty days after His birth the Divine Child was brought to the Temple at Jerusalem to be presented to the Lord. According to the Law of Moses (Lev. 12:2-8)\, a woman who gave birth to a male child was forbidden to enter the Temple for forty days. At the end of the time of her purification\, the mother went to the Temple with the child\, to offer a young lamb\, two turtledoves\, or pigeons to the Lord as a sacrifice. The Most Holy Virgin had no need of purification\, since she had given birth to the Source of purity and sanctity. Out of humility\, however\, she fulfilled the requirements of the Law…click the following link to read the rest of the article: \nhttps://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/02/02/100407-the-meeting-of-our-lord-and-savior-jesus-christ-in-the-temple

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy of Saint Savva the Sanctified
DESCRIPTION:Saint Savva the Sanctified was born in the fifth century at Cappadocia of pious Christian parents\, John and Sophia. His father was a military commander. Journeying to Alexandria on military matters\, John and Sophia left their five-year-old son Savva in the care of an uncle. When the boy reached eight years of age\, he entered the monastery of Saint Flavian located nearby. The gifted child quickly learned to read and became an expert on the Holy Scriptures. In vain did his parents urge Saint Savva to return to the world and enter into marriage…The remainder of his story can be read at https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2021/12/05/103477-venerable-savva-the-sanctified

DESCRIPTION:Today the Church remembers the 350 holy Fathers of the Seventh Ecumenical Council under the holy Patriarch Tarasius (February 25). \nThe Synod of 787\, the second to meet at Nicea\, refuted the Iconoclast heresy during the reign of Empress Irene and her son Constantine VI. \nThe Council decreed that the veneration of icons was not idolatry (Exodus 20:4-5)\, because the honor shown to them is not directed to the wood or paint\, but passes to the prototype (the person depicted).
