SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy-Sunday of the blind man

He told them\, “Your father Abraham was glad that he should see my day; and he saw it and rejoiced” (John 8:56). The Jews said that Jesus was not even fifty years old\, so how could He claim to have seen Abraham? The Lord replied\, “Before Abraham was\, I am.” I am\, of course\, is the name that God revealed to Moses in the Burning Bush. When the Jews picked up stones to throw at Him\, He hid Himself and went out of the Temple…more to read at: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/05/29/40-sunday-of-the-blind-man

DESCRIPTION:The Feast of the Annunciation is one of the earliest Christian feasts\, and was already being celebrated in the fourth century. There is a painting of the Annunciation in the catacomb of Priscilla in Rome dating from the second century. The Council of Toledo in 656 mentions the Feast\, and the Council in Trullo in 692 says that the Annunciation was celebrated during Great Lent. \nMore on the Annunciation at: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/03/25/100884-the-annunciation-of-our-most-holy-lady-the-theotokos-and-ever-vi

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy-Sunday of Orthodoxy
DESCRIPTION:The first Sunday of Great Lent is called the Sunday of Orthodoxy. It commemorates the restoration of the Holy Icons and the triumph of the Orthodox Faith against the terrible heresy of the Iconoclasts. As in those heretics who refused to honour the Holy Icons. For more than a hundred years the Church was disturbed by the evil doctrine of iconoclasm…to continue reading click: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/03/13/10-1st-sunday-of-great-lent-sunday-of-orthodoxy \n

SUMMARY:Memorial Divine Liturgy
DESCRIPTION:Today we remember those in our lives who have fallen asleep. We bring our lists and the names are commemorated during the Liturgy. \n1st Saturday of Great Lent: The Miracle of the Boiled Wheat \nToday we remember the miracle of Saint Theodore the Recruit and the boiled wheat. Fifty years after Saint Theodore’s martyrdom\, Emperor Julian the Apostate (361-363)\, devised a plan to corrupt the Christians during the first week of Great Lent…Saint Theodore appeared to Archbishop Eudoxios in a dream\, telling him to assemble all the Christians on Monday morning and tell them that they must not buy any food from the marketplace. Instead they were to boil some kollyva and to eat it with some honey during that week. The hierarch asked Saint Theodore what he meant by kollyva. He replied\, “Kollyva is what we call boiled wheat in Euchaita.” Thus the scheme of the idol-worshipping emperor was thwarted and the pious people were preserved undefiled during Clean Week…read more at: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/03/12/9-1st-saturday-of-great-lent-the-miracle-of-the-boiled-wheat

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy- Cheesefare Sunday
DESCRIPTION:As we begin the Great Fast\, the Church reminds us of Adam’s expulsion from Paradise. God commanded Adam to fast (Gen. 2:16)\, but he did not obey. Because of their disobedience\, Adam and Eve were cast out of Eden and lost the life of blessedness\, knowledge of God\, and communion with Him\, for which they were created. Both they and their descendants became heirs of death and corruption…to continue reading\, click: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/03/06/7-sunday-of-cheesefare-expulsion-of-adam-from-paradise .

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy- Sunday of the Last Judgement
DESCRIPTION:Today’s Gospel reading is Matthew 25:31-46\, the parable of the Last Judgment. It reminds us that while trusting in Christ’s love and mercy\, we must not forget His righteous judgment when He comes again in glory. If our hearts remain hardened and unrepentant\, we should not expect the Lord to overlook our transgressions simply because He is a good and loving God. Although He does not desire the death of a sinner\, He also expects us to turn from our wickedness and live (Ezek. 33:11). This same idea is expressed in the prayer read by the priest after the penitent has confessed his or her sins (Slavic practice)…click the following link to continue reading: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/02/27/5-sunday-of-meatfare-of-the-last-judgment \n

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy -The Sunday of the Prodigal Son
DESCRIPTION:The Sunday after the Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee is the Sunday of the Prodigal Son. This parable of God’s forgiveness calls us to “come to ourselves” as did the prodigal son\, to see ourselves as being “in a far country” far from the Father’s house\, and to make the journey of return to God. We are given every assurance by the Master that our heavenly Father will receive us with joy and gladness. We must only “arise and go\,” confessing our self-inflicted and sinful separation from that “home” where we truly belong (Luke 15:11-24)…to continue reading click the following link: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/02/20/3-sunday-of-the-prodigal-son

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy of Zaccheus Sunday
DESCRIPTION:The paschal season of the Church is preceded by the season of Great Lent\, which is also preceded by its own liturgical preparation. The first sign of the approach of Great Lent comes five Sundays before its beginning. On this Sunday the Gospel reading is about Zacchaeus the tax-collector. It tells how Christ brought salvation to the sinful man\, and how his life was changed simply because he “sought to see who Jesus was” (Luke 19:3). The desire and effort to see Jesus begins the entire movement through Lent towards Pascha. It is the first movement of salvation. \nTo continue reading\, click the following link: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/02/06/1-sunday-of-zacchaeus

SUMMARY:Festal Divine Liturgy of the Meeting of our Lord in the Temple
DESCRIPTION:The Meeting of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ is described in the third Gospel (Luke 2:22-40). Forty days after His birth the Divine Child was brought to the Temple at Jerusalem to be presented to the Lord. According to the Law of Moses (Lev. 12:2-8)\, a woman who gave birth to a male child was forbidden to enter the Temple for forty days. At the end of the time of her purification\, the mother went to the Temple with the child\, to offer a young lamb\, two turtledoves\, or pigeons to the Lord as a sacrifice. The Most Holy Virgin had no need of purification\, since she had given birth to the Source of purity and sanctity. Out of humility\, however\, she fulfilled the requirements of the Law…click the following link to read the rest of the article: \nhttps://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2022/02/02/100407-the-meeting-of-our-lord-and-savior-jesus-christ-in-the-temple
