SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy
DESCRIPTION:The Holy Martyrs Trophimus\, Theophilus\, and thirteen martyrs with them\, suffered during the persecution against Christians under the emperor Diocletian (284-305). Brought to trial\, they bravely confessed themselves Christians and refused to offer sacrifice to idols. After fierce tortures\, they broke the legs of the holy martyrs and threw them into a fire. Strengthened by the Lord\, they came out of the fire completely unharmed\, and they glorified Christ all the more. Unable to break the will of the holy confessors\, the torturers beheaded them…taken from oca.org

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy-The Commemoration of the Holy Fathers of the First Six Ecumenical Councils.
DESCRIPTION:In the Ninth Article of the Nicea-Constantinople Symbol of Faith proclaimed by the holy Fathers of the First and Second Ecumenical Councils\, we confess our faith in “One\, Holy\, Catholic\, and Apostolic Church.” By virtue of the catholic nature of the Church\, an Ecumenical Council is the Church’s supreme authority\, and possesses the competence to resolve major questions of church life. An Ecumenical Council is comprised of archpastors and pastors of the Church\, and representatives of all the local Churches\, from every land of the “oikumene” (i.e. from all the whole inhabited world)…continue reading at:  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/07/16/50-fathers-of-the-first-six-councils

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy - Afterfeast of the Nativity of the Forerunner
DESCRIPTION:The Nativity of the Holy Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord\, John: The Gospel (Luke. 1: 5) relates that the righteous parents of Saint John the Baptist\, the Priest Zachariah and Elizabeth (September 5)\, lived in the ancient city of Hebron. They reached old age without having children\, since Elizabeth was barren. Once\, Saint Zachariah was serving in the Temple at Jerusalem and saw the Archangel Gabriel\, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. He predicted that Saint Zachariah would father a son\, who would announce the Savior\, the Messiah\, awaited by the Old Testament Church. Zachariah was troubled\, and fear fell upon him. He had doubts that in old age it was possible to have a son\, and he asked for a sign. It was given to him\, and it was also a chastisement for his unbelief. Zachariah was struck speechless until the time of the fulfillment of the archangel’s words…continue reading at:  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/06/24/101800-nativity-of-the-holy-glorious-prophet-forerunner-and-baptist-joh

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy - Sunday of all Saints of North America
DESCRIPTION:On the second Sunday after Pentecost\, each local Orthodox Church commemorates all the saints\, known and unknown\, who have shone forth in its territory. Accordingly\, the Orthodox Church in America remembers the saints of North America on this day. \nSaints of all times\, and in every country are seen as the fulfillment of God’s promise to redeem fallen humanity. Their example encourages us to “lay aside every weight\, and the sin which so easily besets us” and to “run with patience the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1). The saints of North America also teach us how we should live\, and what we must expect to endure as Christians… continue reading at:  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/06/18/49-synaxis-of-the-saints-of-north-america

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy-Sunday of all Saints
DESCRIPTION:The Sunday following Pentecost is dedicated to All Saints\, both those who are known to us\, and those who are known only to God. There have been saints at all times\, and they have come from every corner of the earth. They were Apostles\, Martyrs\, Prophets\, Hierarchs\, Monastics\, and Righteous\, yet all were perfected by the same Holy Spirit. \nThe Descent of the Holy Spirit makes it possible for us to rise above our fallen state and to attain sainthood\, thereby fulfilling God’s directive to “be holy\, for I am holy” (Lev. 11:44\, 1 Peter 1:16\, etc.). Therefore\, it is fitting to commemorate All Saints on the first Sunday after Pentecost…continue reading at: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/06/11/48-synaxis-of-all-saints

SUMMARY:Festal Divine Liturgy of Pentecost
DESCRIPTION:In the Church’s annual liturgical cycle\, Pentecost is “the last and great day.” It is the celebration by the Church of the coming of the Holy Spirit as the end—the achievement and fulfillment—of the entire history of salvation. For the same reason\, however\, it is also the celebration of the beginning: it is the “birthday” of the Church as the presence among us of the Holy Spirit\, of the new life in Christ\, of grace\, knowledge\, adoption to God and holiness…continue reading at:  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/06/04/45-holy-pentecost

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy - Commemoration of the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council
DESCRIPTION:On the seventh Sunday of Pascha\, we commemorate the holy God-bearing Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council. \nThe Commemoration of the First Ecumenical Council has been celebrated by the Church of Christ from ancient times. The Lord Jesus Christ left the Church a great promise\, “I will build My Church\, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Mt. 16:18). Although the Church of Christ on earth will pass through difficult struggles with the Enemy of salvation\, it will emerge victorious. The holy martyrs bore witness to the truth of the Savior’s words\, enduring suffering and death for confessing Christ\, but the persecutor’s sword is shattered by the Cross of Christ…read more:  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/05/28/43-commemoration-of-the-holy-fathers-of-the-first-ecumenical-counci

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy - Sunday of the Blind Man
DESCRIPTION:At the end of Chapter 8 in Gospel of Saint John\, the Savior was disputing with the Pharisees in the Temple during the Feast of Tabernacles. He told them\, “Your father Abraham was glad that he should see my day; and he saw it and rejoiced” (John 8:56). The Jews said that Jesus was not even fifty years old\, so how could He claim to have seen Abraham? The Lord replied\, “Before Abraham was\, I am.” I am\, of course\, is the name that God revealed to Moses in the Burning Bush. When the Jews picked up stones to throw at Him\, He hid Himself and went out of the Temple… read more:  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/05/21/40-sunday-of-the-blind-man

SUMMARY:Sunday of the Holy Myrrhbearing Women with the Noble Joseph Divine Liturgy
DESCRIPTION:The Myrrh-bearing women are those women who followed the Lord\, along with His Mother. SUMMARY:Nocturns\, Matins and Paschal Divine Liturgy
DESCRIPTION:The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the center of the Christian faith. Saint Paul says that if Christ is not raised from the dead\, then our preaching and faith are in vain (I Cor. 15:14). Indeed\, without the resurrection there would be no Christian preaching or faith. The disciples of Christ would have remained the broken and hopeless band which the Gospel of John describes as being in hiding behind locked doors for fear of the Jews. They went nowhere and preached nothing until they met the risen Christ\, the doors being shut (John 20: 19). Then they touched the wounds of the nails and the spear; they ate and drank with Him. The resurrection became the basis of everything they said and did (Acts 2-4): “. . . for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have” (Luke 24:39).read more… https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/04/16/27-holy-pascha-the-resurrection-of-our-lord

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy-Entry of Our Lord into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday)
DESCRIPTION:Palm Sunday is the celebration of the triumphant entrance of Christ into the royal city of Jerusalem. He rode on a colt for which He Himself had sent\, and He permitted the people to hail Him publicly as a king. A large crowd met Him in a manner befitting royalty\, waving palm branches and placing their garments in His path. They greeted Him with these words: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord\, even the King of Israel! (John 12:13). \nThis day together with the raising of Lazarus are signs pointing beyond themselves to the mighty deeds and events which consummate Christ’s earthly ministry. The time of fulfillment was at hand. Christ’s raising of Lazarus points to the destruction of death and the joy of resurrection which will be accessible to all through His own death and resurrection. His entrance into Jerusalem is a fulfillment of the messianic prophecies about the king who will enter his holy city to establish a final kingdom. “Behold\, your king is coming to you\, humble\, and mounted on an ass\, and on a colt\, the foal of an ass” (Zech 9:9)…read more: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/04/09/20-entry-of-our-lord-into-jerusalem-palm-sunday

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy-Lazarus Saturday
DESCRIPTION:Visible triumphs are few in the earthly life of our Lord Jesus Christ. He preached a kingdom “not of this world.” At His nativity in the flesh there was “no room at the inn.” For nearly thirty years\, while He grew “in wisdom and in stature\, and in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52)\, He lived in obscurity as “the son of Mary.” When He appeared from Nazareth to begin His public ministry\, one of the first to hear of Him asked: “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” (John 1:46). In the end He was crucified between two thieves and laid to rest in the tomb of another man. \nTwo brief days stand out as sharp exceptions to the above—days of clearly observable triumph. These days are known in the Church today as Lazarus Saturday and Palm Sunday. Together they form a unified liturgical cycle which serves as the passage from the forty days of Great Lent to Holy Week. They are the unique and paradoxical days before the Lord’s Passion. They are days of visible\, earthly triumph\, of resurrectional and messianic joy in which Christ Himself is a deliberate and active participant. At the same time they are days which point beyond themselves to an ultimate victory and final kingship which Christ will attain not by raising one dead man or entering a particular city\, but by His own imminent suffering\, death and resurrection…read more:  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/04/08/19-the-raising-of-lazarus-lazarus-saturday

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great-Saint John Klimakos (of the Ladder)
DESCRIPTION:The Fourth Sunday of Lent is dedicated to Saint John Klimakos\, the author of The Ladder of Divine Ascent. In this book the Igumen of Saint Katherine’s Monastery on Mount Sinai bears witness to the great effort which is required for entry into God’s Kingdom (Matthew 10:12). The spiritual struggle of the Christian life is difficult since it is “not against flesh and blood\, but against … the rulers of the present darkness … the hosts of wickedness in heavenly places …” (Ephesians 6:12). Saint John encourages the faithful in their efforts for\, as the Lord has said\, only “he who endures to the end will be saved” (Matthew 24:13)…completed at:  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/03/26/16-4th-sunday-of-great-lent-st-john-climacus-of-the-ladder

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy-The Annunciation of our Most Holy Lady\, the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary
DESCRIPTION:The Feast of the Annunciation is one of the earliest Christian feasts\, and was already being celebrated in the fourth century. There is a painting of the Annunciation in the catacomb of Priscilla in Rome dating from the second century. The Council of Toledo in 656 mentions the Feast\, and the Council in Trullo in 692 says that the Annunciation was celebrated during Great Lent…continue at:  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/03/25/100884-the-annunciation-of-our-most-holy-lady-the-theotokos-and-ever-vi

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great-Sunday of the Cross
DESCRIPTION:The Third Sunday of Lent is that of the Veneration of the Cross. The cross stands in the midst of the church in the middle of the lenten season not merely to remind men of Christ’s redemption and to keep before them the goal of their efforts\, but also to be venerated as that reality by which man must live to be saved. “He who does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me” (Mt.10:38). For in the Cross of Christ Crucified lies both “the power of God and the wisdom of God” for those being saved (1 Cor.1:24)…taken from oca.org

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy-Sunday of Cheesefare-Expulsion of Adam from Paradise-Forgiveness Sunday
DESCRIPTION:As we begin the Great Fast\, the Church reminds us of Adam’s expulsion from Paradise. God commanded Adam to fast (Gen. 2:16)\, but he did not obey. Because of their disobedience\, Adam and Eve were cast out of Eden and lost the life of blessedness\, knowledge of God\, and communion with Him\, for which they were created. Both they and their descendants became heirs of death and corruption…To Continue reading\, click: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/02/26/7-sunday-of-cheesefare-expulsion-of-adam-from-paradise \nThis Sunday Forgiveness Vespers will be served in the early afternoon\, directly after Liturgy.

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy-Sunday of the Last Judgement/ Meatfare Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Today’s Gospel reading is Matthew 25:31-46\, the parable of the Last Judgment. It reminds us that while trusting in Christ’s love and mercy\, we must not forget His righteous judgment when He comes again in glory. If our hearts remain hardened and unrepentant\, we should not expect the Lord to overlook our transgressions simply because He is a good and loving God. Although He does not desire the death of a sinner\, He also expects us to turn from our wickedness and live (Ezek. 33:11). This same idea is expressed in the prayer read by the priest after the penitent has confessed his or her sins (Slavic practice)…to continue reading click :  https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2023/02/19/5-sunday-of-meatfare-of-the-last-judgment \nAlso\, this is the last time we eat meat until we celebrate the Risen Christ at Pascha.
