St. Piama, hear our prayer

We have two of our parish women celebrating their names days today.

St. Piama lived in asceticism in her mother’s home not far from Alexandria. She only ate food at the end of the day. After prayer, she spun flax. When the Saint was very young her father died, but her Christian mother raised her with discipline and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). When she grew up, she and her mother engaged in works of mercy and compassion. They were not wealthy, but out of their meager income, they were able to help their poor and weak brethren. After her mother reposed, the venerable one continued the work of ministering to her suffering brothers and sisters by herself. She visited their homes, comforted them, and strengthened their faith.

When Saint Piama reposed in 337, there was widespread mourning in her village.

Our two parish women celebrating their namesday today have become as indispensable to our church, as their patron saint was to her village.

O gracious St Piama, we come before you with humble hearts. We ask for your intercession as we strive to follow your example of charity and generosity. Help us to embrace the spirit of service to others. Good St Piama, guide us in our faith and teach us to be faithful servants of God. May we honor your feast day by sowing seeds of love within our parish by helping each other to clean the church on Sundays as your two namesakes do. Guide us, dear St. Piama, as we pray for the grace to put the teachings of Jesus into practice, serving our neighbors with kindness and compassion. In the Lord’s name, we pray. Amen.
