Meatfare Sunday
A quick reminder that we will be having a Meatfare potluck lunch after Divine Liturgy this Sunday.
Meatfare is the last day Orthodox Christians eat meat until Pascha. It is also the Sunday of the Last Judgment. Although it sounds threatening, the parable of the Last Judgment tells us that Jesus Christ will judge people on love, specifically on how deeply they care for others and share God’s love.
What follows after this Sunday is several weeks of prayer and community, of forgiveness and seeking it. One week after Meatfare is Cheesefare Sunday, the last day for Orthodox Christians to eat dairy products until Pascha. It is also Forgiveness Sunday, a day of repentance and making amends, as we ask for the forgiveness of those around us.
After Cheesefare Sunday, the period of Great Lent begins in earnest with a full fast of 40 days, until the Great Feast of Pascha when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ.
We hope you join us on this journey! All are welcome.
